Our picture of the week was inspired by the story The Sassy Chicken told by Danielle Free and was drawn by 10 year old Bella who lives in The Netherlands. What a marvellous picture you’ve drawn, of the cunning fox and cheeky chicken. We love fox’s bushy tail, pointed ears and proud expression. It’s good that he helped that brave chicken to get the gold back from the greedy farmer. We can almost hear the chicken’s delighted clucking in your drawing! Thanks for sharing it.
Bella and her brother Odin – who’s seven, speak Dutch and English at home and they say that listening to the podcast helps improve their vocabulary. Hurrah! Improving vocabulary is one of the big benefits of storytelling! Teachers also tell us that children who listen to stories regularly write much better stories themselves because they’ve learnt about how stories are shaped.
